Sunday Morning Post (V.2, #4) - Terry Jones (But No Spam)
We lost
another Python this week. Terry Jones
was half of the writing team of Jones and (Michael) Palin before, during, and
after the Python years. His passing this
week did not come as a total surprise.
A few years ago,
we learned that he had been afflicted with a form of dementia which robbed him
of his ability to speak. I don’t want to
sound cruel, but given his prognosis at the time, I silently hoped that he would
not suffer long. Now his suffering is
over and we can all mourn his passing and enjoy his many performances once
more.
I’ve started
searching Casa de Gunther for my copy of Dr. Fegg’s Nasty Book of
Knowledge. In the meantime, I will
choose a clip from a variety of YouTube saved performances. Ah, but which one?
Mr. Creosote
from The Meaning of Life? Too graphic for
a Sunday morning when the blogosphere should be enjoying their breakfast.
The hapless
gentleman who happens upon Graham Chapman contemplating his flying sheep? Tempting, when one considers that this was
the first sketch of the show’s premiere episode. Unfortunately, it’s more Chapman than Jones.
I can’t find
a clip of the Spam sketch which doesn’t morph into something else and thus take
the focus off Jones. So please enjoy
Jones’ performance as the (virgin?) Mandy Cohen from Life of Brian:
(Thank you
for reading. The hunt for Dr. Fegg goes on…)

I'm sure (like you?) that sometime I've seen the spam sketch being performed, which may be the same as what you're referring to as blurring into anther sketch, but I think 'spam' first appeared in its own right as audio only on one of their L.P.s. (It may have been on their very first one) which may have something to do with it being hard to find in visual form.
Another of my many LOL favourites, though an under-recognised one near the start of 'Life of Brian', is quoted in my Sunday morning paper:
Mandy Cohen: "So what star sign is he then?"
Magi 1: "Hmm.....Capricorn"
Mandy C.: "Capricorn eh? So what are they like?"
Magi 1: "Like? Oh, but ....He is the Son of God - Our MESSIAH!!"
Magi 2: "The KING OF THE JEWS!!!"
Mandy C.: "And that's Capricorn is it?"
Priceless! :-O

I love "The Life of Brian" and I love Terry Jones. His astonishing array of "pepperpot ladies" (including the Virgin Mandy) are still one of the funniest comedy bits imaginable. He was a true comedic genius.
Mr. Creosote... an after dinner aperitif with the gusto of "one... thin... mint." I remember seeing that scene in the theater and hearing the audience explode.
Sad that someone who made a living by words was robbed of the use of them.
Still, we have the laughs forever.
He was also a scholar of medieval times. I read his book accusing Henry IV of the disappearance of Chaucer.
Thank you, Raybeard. That is a classic bit from Brian.
Jones had his pepperpot impressions down to a science, Debra.
I had the same theatrical experience as you Dave R.
True,Bob. Very ironic.
Thank you, Spo. Not many people know about his serious writing efforts
