In Memory of “Hi, guy!”
We would be
terribly remiss if we did not note the passing of actor/voice over artist Chuck
McCann. We will always remember him from
the Right Guard commercials in the early 70s. For those who don’t remember his work referenced
here, we will post the commercial below.
Obituaries
also point out his long running gig as the cuckoo bird who would proclaim
proudly that he was “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.” I haven’t seen any mention of his work on the first silent film to be dubbed
with spoken dialogue in 1970, the Laurel and Hardy classic Double Whoopee,
originally released in 1929. I don’t
believe this was ever officially released, but it was finally put on the DVD
version when the Laurel and Hardy shorts were released on DVD in the 90s.
The IMDB web site barely mentions this experiment as a footnote.
So, gaze and
smile again at Mr. McCann’s work. Also,
once again we are left to wonder who is the Rowan Atkinson look-alike actor
with McCann in the Right Guard commercials?
Maybe Mona
will know.
(Thank you
for reading. Seriously I’d appreciate it
if someone, anyone remembers this actors name.
I know I’ve seen him in other things.)

That's so sad. I loved those commercials, not to mention a couple of guest appearances on Starsky & Hutch.
The other actor was Bill Fiore. What can I say, I have a trivial mind.
Thank you Deedles for the memory. A lot of these commercials have found a final resting place on Youtube.
Bye Guy. RIP.
Thank you, Bob.
