Sunday Morning Post (V.3, #13) – In Memory of Jessica Walter
There was a time not too long ago when we would make fun and belittle those who dared to display a superior attitude towards the mass humanity at large. Now it seems we can’t beat those little effers away with a stick if the January 6th insurrection is any indication. Prior to this year we could laugh at their crass acts of bigotry and prejudice in the media*. We didn’t see them as a big threat then; now we know better. That is indeed how smug many of us have been.
One of those who helped us belittle the haters was the late Jessica Walter. Her career stretched back to the early 60s, but I didn’t really enjoy her work until she voiced the role of Malory on the animated television series Archer. Malory was the spymaster who loved/hated her over-sexed, super-alcoholic, egotistical secret agent son Sterling Archer. Her pronouncements of him and those other elements of society which are looked down upon would make an earlier television icon Archie Bunker blush.
We lost this wonderful actress this week, but we will always remember her as Malory Archer and there was that one memorable episode from The Big Bang Theory. Please enjoy the excerpts of her performances below:
*In real life bigotry has never been a laughing matter, and we’ve been the bigger fools when we didn’t realize that.
(Thank you for reading. Rest in peace, Miss Walter.)

Adored her in Arrested Development, too. Had forgotten about Archer! Yes, I was hooked on that until it started jumping the shark... which, of course, they were doing from day one, but some of those seasons devoted to a single homage were too much to take. Thanks for remembering her today. Have a lovely.
We loved her in Arrested Development and discovered her in Archer (which we loved) searching for other things she was in. It is sad we will not see her in new roles.
She's not an actress with whom I'm all that familiar, having missed watching "Archer" and "Arrested Development." However, I DID see that Big Bang episode you included!
I've seen her for eons and was saddened to hear of her passing. RIP
I never watched Arrested Development, Uptonking, but it seems like her character there was very similar to Malory Archer.
She will be missed Breenlantern.
That was a fun BBT episode, Debra.
Thank you Bob for your thoughts.
Don't watch TV so I saw very little of her in her later career, however I did get to see Clint Eastwood punch her out the window in Play Misty For Me.
Someone was a big Archer fan; I will pass the news onto him.
Eastwood was always a hit with the women, Dave R.
Thank you for passing along the news, Spo.
